Welcome to the Site of the AAO or Adelaide Accordion Orchestra – the only one in Adelaide!

As the name implies, we are an Adelaide based Orchestra consisting of Accordionists who are passionate about accordions and music.

The Orchestra plays regularly in the community at various ethnic Festivals, Private Functions, Retirement Villages etc.

The AAO consists of 9 accordion players and can be booked for functions either in the evening or on weekends by ringing 0419 804946.

The Orchestra has been in existence since 1950 as part of the German Club and in those days only played German music. However, under the guidance of Carlo Anzellotti the repertoire of the Orchestra has over time been broadened to encompass Traditional Music from Italy, France, Holland and Spain; Dance music from various countries around the world; Tangos and Latin American rhythms; Semi-Classical Music and Modern International Popular music from between the 1960s and 1990s.

When we perform, our audiences either tap toes, sing along or dance to our music. The feedback we get is that they are surprised “how good accordion music can sound”.

If you would like to join the  AAO as an accordion player or player of another instrument like drum or percussion you have come to the right place. Check out our page called “Join” for more information about what it means to play in our Orchestra or get in contact with us.
